Similarity Test समानता परीक्षण
The Similarity Test is kind 5a of the Perceptual Speed Test, the fifth and last test of the RRB ALP CBAT. The hall gives 72 questions in 6 minutes on one Time Left clock. The questions come as 18 sheets, each with four figures marked a, b, c and d. Beside every figure sit five figures A to E, and you pick the one most nearly like it. The test measures how fast and how accurately your eye finds the closest match among five figures.
On screen the sheet sits on the left and its four questions on the right. Find figure a's closest match, click the letter, then do the same for b, c and d. Save & Next opens the next sheet. This page gives the screen flow, the RDSO guideline's worked example and a method that fits 5 seconds a question. It adds the mistakes that cost marks, a 7-day plan, this portal's practice papers and free Full Mock.
The hall's own count and clock, as the RDSO guideline (ALPs Guidelines CBT, Jan 2020) gives them. Five options A to E beside each figure a to d on a sheet; click one letter for each figure.

How the test runs on screenस्क्रीन पर कैसे चलता है
- 1
Instruction screen
The test opens with instructions in Hindi and English and one example sheet with its four answers marked. On the portal this screen allows 5 minutes; press Skip Instruction when you have read it.
- 2
The sheet on the left
The test screen shows one sheet: four figures down the left, marked a, b, c and d. Beside each figure are five figures A to E.
- 3
Four questions on the right
The sheet's four questions sit on the right, 1 for a, 2 for b, 3 for c and 4 for d. Each has five options A to E; click one letter for each figure.
- 4
Save & Next to the next sheet
Save & Next saves the four clicks and opens the next sheet. Its questions run 5 to 8, and so on to 72. One Time Left clock runs for the whole test. No sheet has its own clock, and there is no break inside the test.
- 5
Submit and T-Score
Press Submit after sheet 18, or the clock submits for you at zero. On the portal the T-Score appears at once, and the review opens every sheet with its correct letters.
A worked exampleउदाहरण
- Look at the first figure, a, at the left. Which of the five at the right is most nearly like it? Figure D.
- For the second figure, b, the answer is figure C.
In the example of the RDSO guideline the answers for a, b, c and d are D, C, B and A.
The method: how to attempt a questionतरीका
- 1
Name one feature of the figure
Look at figure a for a moment and name the one thing that sets it apart. It may be the slant of a line, a notch, a dot or a cut corner. Do not study the whole figure.
- 2
Sweep the five for that feature only
Run your eye along A to E and ask one question of each: does it have the feature? Options without the feature drop out. If one option is left, click it; if more than one is left, go to the next step.
- 3
Settle a tie with a second feature
If more than one option survives, take a second feature of figure a and test only those. The option that keeps both features is the answer. Do not go back to the first feature.
- 4
Click, then drop one row
Click the letter in the first question and move to figure b and the second question. The order never changes: a is the first question on the sheet, b the second, c the third, d the fourth. Press Save & Next after d.
6 tips that raise the scoreसुझाव
1.Closest of the five, not a copy
The right option can be drawn a little differently from the left figure. The question asks for the closest of the five, not a copy. Do not throw out a near match while hunting a perfect one that is not there.
2.Let the five options tell you the feature
If the left figure looks plain, glance at the five first. Where they differ from each other is the feature being tested. Then look for that feature in the left figure.
3.Keep to 5 seconds a figure
72 questions in 6 minutes is 5 seconds a question, or three sheets a minute. One feature, one sweep, one click, four times a sheet. A sheet that takes longer is eating the next one.
4.Keep the row
Figure c always goes with the third question of the sheet, whatever its number, 3, 7 or 71. One slipped row spoils every answer after it on that sheet. Say the row's letter to yourself before each click.
5.No second look at a finished sheet
Once the four letters are clicked, press Save & Next at once. Re-checking the four before you move on costs the time of a new sheet.
6.Practise on a laptop or desktop
The portal works on a phone too, but the exam hall is a desktop screen with a mouse. Sit every practice paper and Full Mock on a laptop or desktop, so the screen, the mouse and the pace are the ones you will meet on the day.
Mistakes that cost marksगलतियाँ
- Comparing every line of every option with the left figure instead of sweeping for one feature.
- Answering the second question of a sheet with the match for figure c, because the eye slipped one row down.
- Rejecting the closest option because it is not drawn exactly like the figure, then clicking a worse one.
- Spending so long on one hard figure that the last sheets never open before the clock submits.
- Stopping the sweep at the first option that shows the feature, when a later option is closer.
A 7-day plan for the Similarity Test7 दिन की योजना
| Day | What to do |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | Read the instruction screen slowly and work the example sheet by hand until D, C, B, A make sense. Sit one practice paper on a laptop to meet the sheet, the options and the clock. |
| Day 2 | Open the review of Day 1. Sort every wrong answer into three groups: wrong feature, slipped row, or a near match rejected. Note which group is biggest. |
| Day 3 | Sit a fresh paper. Before each sweep, name the one feature under your breath. Finish every sheet without a second look. |
| Day 4 | Speed day: two papers back to back on the laptop. Reach sheet 18 before Time Left hits zero, keeping the row on every sheet. |
| Day 5 | Sit the free Full Mock, all five tests in one sitting. Notice how this test feels after four tests of concentration. |
| Day 6 | Read the Full Mock scorecard. Re-sit your weakest Similarity paper; you have up to 3 attempts and the highest T-Score counts. |
| Day 7 | One final paper at full speed, then rest your eyes. Target T-Score 60 in this test; the pass bar is 42. |
Questions students askसवाल-जवाब
▸How many questions and how many minutes does the RRB ALP Similarity Test have?
The hall gives 72 questions in 6 minutes, as 18 sheets of four figures. That is 5 seconds a question on one Time Left clock. The practice papers on this portal use the same count and clock.
▸Is the Similarity Test the same as the Same Figure Test in the RRB ALP psycho test?
No, the two differ. The Same Figure Test (5e) asks for the identical figure, 72 questions in 8 minutes. The Similarity Test asks for the one most nearly like it, 72 in 6 minutes.
▸What does most nearly like mean in the Similarity Test?
It means the closest of the five, even when none is a perfect copy of the left figure. Count differences, not matches: the option with the fewest differences is the answer.
▸Did the last RRB ALP exam give the Similarity Test?
No. In the last exam (CEN 01/2024) this battery came as the Same Figure Test (5e), as the institute's records show. The hall may give any of the five kinds, so practise this test and the other four kinds too. For CEN 01/2025 the railway's mock link gives the Octagonal Test (5b).
▸Is the Similarity Test hard?
The matching itself is easy; the clock makes it hard. Marks are lost to slow comparing, slipped rows and second looks, not to difficult figures. A week of timed papers on a laptop works on all three.
▸How many sheets a minute should I finish in the Similarity Test?
Three. 18 sheets in 6 minutes is three sheets a minute, 5 seconds a figure. If a sheet runs long, click your best letters and move on; the next sheet may be an easy one.
▸Is there negative marking in the RRB ALP psycho test?
No. The CBAT has no negative marking. Attempt every question; an unanswered question is a mark lost for certain.
▸What T-Score do I need to pass?
A T-Score of at least 42 in each of the five tests of the CBAT. The portal shows your T-Score on every paper the moment you submit, measured against everyone who sat it.
▸Can I practise on my phone?
Yes, the portal runs on a phone. But the CBAT is taken on a desktop with a mouse, so Kautilya Classes advises every student to sit the practice papers and Full Mocks on a laptop or desktop: the same screen, the same mouse, the same pace as the hall.
▸How do I practise this test on the portal?
Every account gets one free Full Mock after login: all five tests in one sitting with the hall's timing and a scorecard with your T-Score in each test. Practice papers of every kind, with the hall's count and clock, come with a Kautilya Classes package. New students message the team on WhatsApp; Kautilya Classes students get their login from the institute.
